1.What is AdR fellowship’s approach?1
The AdR Fellowship blends social entrepreneurship, academic scholarship and cross-cultural dialogue. The program identifies and supports talented professionals who are committed to social change. It is using this shared purpose in developing sustainable social impact as a new form of cross-cultural dialogue, particularly between Muslim and Jewish communities.
2.How old is the fellowship program?2
The AdR Fellowship was created in 2009.
3.How many fellows are accepted for each session?3
Up to 30.
4.Do I have to pay to participate in the fellowship?4
The Fellowship is fully underwritten by the Edmond de Rothschild Foundation. All selected candidates are provided with return tickets from and to their place of residence, accommodation and in-residence meals.
Successful candidates will be subject to a deposit check of $500 which is refundable at the end of the Cambridge session.
5.Is there an age limit?5
No, there is no age limit to apply.
6.Can I apply if I am not a national of the countries listed in the application form?6
Yes, you can. However applicants must show a proof of residence with the following countries : Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, UK and USA.
7.Can I apply if I am not from Muslim or Jewish background?7
Yes, you can. While the Fellowship focuses on building bridges between Muslim and Jewish communities, it is also creating a new brand for conflict resolution. We welcome everyone who can demonstrate a commitment to social impact and cross-cultural dialogue.
8.Is there a specific sector focus?8
Based on previous cohort, we have identified the following focus areas:
- Environment & New Technologies
- Social Media
- Community Service
- Creative Arts
- Intercultural / interfaith projects
Please note that we will consider other sectors based on the strength of the project.
9.Can I apply if I have a powerful “‘idea’?9
No, we only accept candidates whose organization has been registered and active for at least two years.
10.Do I need to have a business mindset?10
Yes, great consideration will be allocated to the Business section of the application.
11.What are the language requirements?11
Proficiency in English is required. There will be an opportunity for native French speakers to receive some support and submit some written materials in French during the program as necessary. To support the French fellows, the Edmond de Rothschild Foundation might consider organizing English workshops in Paris before the inception of the program.
12.What is expected of me if I am selected?12
Accepted Fellows are required to participate in all sessions of the summer program to be held in Cambridge, UK in July 2015 (19th-31st).
The Fellows will be required to submit a Cambridge business plan template (no later than 30th June 2015. The fellows will be require to reapply for the winter session of the fellowship and demonstrate substantial progress in their business plan.
13.Can I apply if my application was unsuccessful in previous year(s)?13
Yes, you can and we encourage you to do so.
14.What is the review process?14
Applications must be submitted electronically through the application form by March 21st 2015.
Pre-selected candidates will have a phone interview during the evaluation process. Short-listed candidates will be invited to the final jury in New York or Paris in May 2015.
15.Do I have to make my own travel and accommodation arrangements for final interview?15
No, The Edmond de Rothschild Foundation will pay for and organize your travel arrangements (train & plane) from and to your place of residence. Please note that the Edmond de Rothschild Foundation work exclusively with its affiliated travel agency and will not reimburse any travel expenses which would be organized individually.
The EdR Foundation defines an upper limit for travel expenses and will not be able to cover expenses beyond the defined amount. Please be informed that EdR Foundation neither covers accommodation nor will pay for it during the interview process.
16.Do I need to have health insurance?16
Yes, all incoming Fellows must provide proof of health coverage.
17.If I have a disability, can I still apply?17
Yes, you can. We do request that, if selected, you let us know your needs so we are able to provide you with appropriate support.
18.Are children allowed?18
The Fellowship is an intensive 2-week programme based at the Moller Centre, an adult education centre at the University of Cambridge. The centre does not allow children under the age of 16 on its premises.
