Maryam Jamshidi is a writer and lawyer with nearly ten years of experience working on issues relating to the Middle East and North Africa region. As an attorney in private practice, Maryam has represented regional governments and state-owned companies in matters ranging from the diplomatic to the commercial. She has also worked in the NGO sector with human rights and civil rights organizations focused on the region and its diaspora communities. Several years ago, Maryam's commitment to the Mideast led her to found Muftah.org, a digital magazine covering the political, economic, cultural, and entrepreneurial scenes in Middle Eastern and North African countries. Most recently, Maryam authored an ebook titled the "Future of the Arab Spring: Civic Entrepreneurship in Politics, Art, and Technology Startups, " which examines the grassroots initiatives driving the region's recent revolutions and will be published in September 2013.
Maryam holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Brown University, a Master of Science degree in Political Theory from the London School of Economics, and a JD degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
